Winnipeg Police Service investigators have arrested two suspects in connection to the September 4, 2021 shooting at a Portage Avenue nightclub.
Police responded to Spades Lounge and Hookah Bar around 4;00 am after police officers who were at Health Sciences Centre on another matter were told by two people seeking medical treatment that they had been injured during a shooting at the club.
The 27-year-old female had suffered injuries from flying glass and a male in his 30s had been shot multiple times and was in critical condition.
As the investigation unfolded police believe that two groups within the lounge got into an altercation which resulted in firearms being discharged and one person being shot.
Police identified two suspects and took them both into custody during the last week of September.
Simalew Tolcha Mammo, 31 of Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking Cocaine
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Ammunition Contrary to Order x 3
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Discharging Firearm in a Reckless Manner
24-year-old Jeffrey Russell Sadiua of Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Ammunition Contrary to Order
- Pointing a Firearm
- Discharge Firearm with Intent
- Discharging Firearm in a Reckless Manner
Both accused were detained in custody.
