Winnipeg Police have arrested two males in connection to an assault and robbery at a Portage Avenue bus shelter near Edmonton Street on Wednesday, February 23, 2022.
According to police a male in his 20s was approached by the accused who demanded a cigarette. One of the suspects swung an hatchet at the victim hitting him in the face. The other suspect brandished a firearm.
The victim was able to run away.
A Winnipeg Transit supervisor in the area at the time of the incident was able to help the victim who declined medical help.
The two suspects got onto a bus to leave the area.
Transit worked with police who were responding to the incident and identified the suspects. The pair were taken into custody after exiting the bus near Portage Avenue and Fort Street.
22-year-old Tyler William James Abraham as well as a 17-year-old male have been charged for their alleged involvement with a number of weapon and assault offences.
Both were detained in custody.
