Two Saturday night fires under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service is investigating the cause of two fires Saturday night, February 13, 2021.

Hampton Street

Around 6:40 pm emergency crews were called to a two-storey home on Hampton Street just north of Portage Avenue.

Heavy smoke and flames were coming from the building as firefighters arrived on the scene. An offensive attack was launched but as conditions became unsafe crews fell back to a defensive attack. Once conditions improved firefighters were able to once again battle the blaze from inside the structure. The fire was declared under control by 8:06 pm

The people inside the house were able to get themselves out before fire crews arrived. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

College Avenue

While crews were fighting the Hampton Street fire a second fire response headed to a fire in a three-storey multi-family home in the 300 block of College Avenue.

Crews encountered smoke as they entered the building and an offensive attack was launched.

Firefighters helped one person to safety but the rest of the people inside were able to self-evacuate the building.

The fire was declared under control by 8:06 pm

No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
