Two dead in two different rollovers in Manitoba

RCMP are investigating two different rollovers that claimed two lives in southern Manitoba this weekend

Police say that just after 2:00 pm on Saturday, July 7, 2018, a single-vehicle rollover on Highway 83 south of Virden took the life of a 42-year-old driver.

Investigators say the vehicle hit the ditch and rolled several times ejecting the driver who was not wearing a seatbelt. The 31-year-old male passenger was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

Alcohol and speed are considered factors in the collision.

Ten hours later, just after midnight on July 8, 2018, a 28-year-old male from St. Francois Xavier lost his life when his vehicle veered across the shoulder on Highway 26, then crossed the road and hit the ditch causing his vehicle to roll. The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was taken to hospital where he died shortly afterwards.

Police say that alcohol was not a factor but speed may have played a roll in the collision.

Both fatal collisions are under investigation.
