When firefighters arrived on the scene they found thick black smoke coming from the building. Although an offensive attack was launched it quickly transitioned to a defensive due to unsafe conditions inside the structure. Once the fire was knocked down and conditions improved firefighters were able to once again enter the home and continue with an offensive attack. The fire was declared under control at 3:00 pm.

One resident was able to get out of the home on their own but neighbours helped a second resident out from a second storey window. Both occupants were assessed by paramedics and taken to hospital in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.

Emergency crews evacuated neighbouring homes as a precaution.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
