Two RCMP officers violently assaulted during an arrest

A 36-year-old man is behind bars after he attacked two RCMP officers as they were arresting him.

The incident began around 10:50 pm on August 21, 2022, when 911 received a call that reported a collision between a vehicle and a deer on Provincial Road 302 about five kilometres south of La Broquerie.

Police say that while the female caller was talking to the 911 operator, a man came on the line and advised them that everything was fine. As the 911 operator questioned the man he became belligerent and hung up the phone.

As responding officers arrived on the scene the 62-year-old female passenger who made the initial call got out of the vehicle and stated that there was no collision but she had been assaulted by the man driving the vehicle.

Officers approached the vehicle to arrest the man but he became combative and hit each officer repeatedly before he could be physically restrained with help from other officers. The accused and both officers were taken to hospital, treated and released.

Richard Larocque from Vita, Manitoba, was remanded into custody and charged for his alleged involvement with Assault, two counts of Aggravated Assault, two counts of Uttering Threats and two counts of Resisting Arrest.
