Two overnight fires under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to a number of fires early Monday morning, May 18, 2020, including two structure fires.

Main Street Fire

Around 1:22 am crews were called to a City of Winnipeg -owned two-storey historic house on Main Street. Known as Bleak House the structure was built in 1874 and currently houses a non-profit agency.

When firefighters arrived on scene they encountered smoke and flames coming form the building. An offensive attack was launched and the fire was under control within 30 minutes.

Imperial Avenue Fire

At 3:10 am emergency crews were called to a fire in the 100 block of Imperial Avenue for the report of a fire.

Crews launched an offensive attack and were able to quickly bring the fire under control.

The building is under construction and no one was in the home at the time of the fire.

The fire caused significant damage to the home.

Both fires are under investigation.
