Manitoba Public Health announced late Sunday afternoon, September 13, 2020, that there are two more schools that have students who tested positive for COVID-19.
Daniel McIntye Collegiate Institute at 720 Alverstone Street in Winnipeg is the site of a possible exposure on the morning of September 9 and again in the afternoon of September 10.
Officials say the student attended school while asymptomatic. The investigation into where the individual acquired the virus indicates that it was not acquired at the school. The school and cohort are being notified and cleaning of high-touch areas in the school is underway.
John Prichard School located at 1490 Henderson Highway in Winnipeg is the site of a possible exposure. Health officials say that on September 8,9 and 10 the individual attended the school in both the morning and afternoon. The investigation indicates the virus was not acquired at the school.
The school and cohort are being notified and additional cleaning is underway of high-touch areas.
Neither of the schools is being elevated in the Pandemic Response System risk level given the low risk and lack of close contacts.
These are the second and third reported cases of COVID-19 in Winnipeg schools since schools reopened on Tuesday, September 8, 2020. There was also one student in the Brandon area who tested positive on Friday, September 11th at Ecole New Era School. None of the students appears to have acquired the infection in school.
Manitoba Public health recommends staying home if sick, washing or sanitizing your hands, cover your cough and be vigilant about physical distancing.
