Two more people charged in connection to a major drug bust

Winnipeg Police have charged two more suspects in connection to Project Gold Dust a drug trafficking investigation that saw the dismantling of an inter-provincial drug network where 11 people were previously charged.

During the nine-month multi-agency investigation police learned how the drug trafficking network worked. On February 10, 2021, 26 search warrants were executed in British Columbia and Winnipeg.

Twelve people were arrested at the time and officers seized more than $11.5 million in assets including drugs, vehicles, cash, jewellery, and residential properties.

Winnipeg Police have now charged two additional suspects in connection to the investigation.

Matthew Willian Liwanag, 25 and Jeremiah Bruce Alcera, 23 have been charged for their alleged involvement with Conspiracy to Commit Indictable Offence – Trafficking Cocaine and Conspiracy to Commit Indicatable Offence – Proceeds of Crime Over $5,000. Investigators seized a 2015 Infinity Q50 as offence-related property.

Both of the accused were released and will appear in court in the future.
