Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to the report of a structure fire in a house under construction on Milton Street around 9:45 pm Friday night, February 12, 2021.
Smoke and flames could be seen shooting into the night sky more than 10 blocks away.
As firefighters arrived on the scene the building was fully engulfed by the fire. They immediately launched a defensive attack as temperatures hovered below -30c
As the fire raged on the intensity of the flames and the wind extended the blaze to a neighbouring home also under construction as well as an occupied home.
Residents of the home had safely self-evacuated before emergency crews arrived.
The fire was declared under control at 10:45 pm but emergency crews spent nearly two hours battling the fires and knocking down hotspots.
Both buildings under construction suffered significant damage from flames, smoke and water. They are considered complete losses. The other home suffered moderate smoke and fire damage.
No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
