Two men stabbed at University of Winnipeg, suspect arrested and charged

A 28-year-old male suspect is facing a number of assault and weapon charges after he attempted to steal a computer from a victim inside the University of Winnipeg on Thursday night, November 9, 2017.

Police say that it happened around 8:20 pm. a 19-year-old male was sitting at a table inside the University when a man came up and tried to rip-off the victim’s computer. The victim held on and the suspect pulled a knife and stabbed him in the upper body. The suspect then walked away.

As the suspect left the building he was confronted by a number of people who had witnessed the robbery attempt. The suspect pulled the knife again and stabbed an adult male in the midsection while uttering threats. He then took off.

Air-1 had been alerted and was quickly able to locate and track the suspect. From their birds-eye vantage point Air-1 directed K-9 and general patrol offices to the suspect’s location.  Officers found the suspect hiding in a yard in the 600 block of Maryland Avenue. He was arrested.

The first victim did not require hospitalization but the second victim was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

28-year-old Justin Michael Henderson from Winnipeg is facing charges of Robbery x2, Assault with a weapon x2, Possess Weapon and Utter Threats.
