Winnipeg police have arrested two men in unrelated weapon possession incidents.
Andrews St & Flora Avenue
A male suspect is in custody and facing weapons charges after he was spotted by police near the intersection of Andrews Street and Flora Avenue on Thursday morning, August 11, 2022.
Officers knew the man was wanted and also believed he had a rifle in his possession. As police approached the suspect fled on a bicycle but soon came to a crashing stop after the strap from the duffle bag he was carrying got caught in the spokes of his front wheel.
The man was quickly placed in custody and arrested on the strength of the outstanding warrant. Officers also saw a sawed-off rifle protruding from the duffle bag.
37-year-old Clinton Wirffel of Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition, four counts of Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order, Fail to Comply with Probation Order and Warrant – Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Later the same day officers tried to stop a man who was riding a bicycle in breach of the Highway Traffic Act.
As police attempted to stop the man he fled on foot prompting a foot chase. Officers quickly caught up to the suspect and placed in custody.
A search of the suspect uncovered a loaded Taurus G2C 9 mm Handgun with obliterated serial number, Magazine containing several rounds, Drug Paraphernalia and approximately $3,200 in cash.
A 21-year-old man has been charged for his alleged involvement with
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
- Resist Peace Officer
The accused was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.
