Two men aged 47 and 29 are facing more than $80,000 in fines after Manitoba Finance seized 87,900 contraband cigarettes from a Winnipeg home on July 27, 2021.
According to officials the province stood to loose more than $26,370 in tax revenue had the cigarettes been sold. If convicted the pair could receive fines between $1,000 and $10,000 and may face a triple tax penalty of $79,110. The pair also face charges under the criminal code
None of the charges have been proven in court.
