Winnipeg’s ICE Unit spent months investigating latest cases
Winnipeg’s Internet Child Exploitation Unit (ICE) has arrested and charged two men in separate cases for sharing child pornography images via the internet.
Investigators say they identified a Winnipeg resident as having uploaded child sexual abuse imagery from a chat room site that is known to police.
After a lengthy investigation from ICE, a 32-year-old male was arrested.
On July 11, 2017, officers executed a search warrant on a home in north St. Boniface. A number of electronics were seized. Police also had a warrant for a vehicle and found other electronic devices that they seized.
Matthieu Gauthier from Winnipeg was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement. He now faces charges for Possession of Child Pornography
and Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography.
He was remanded into custody.
The investigation into the second case involving a second male suspect began in February 2017 after ICE was notified that a Winnipeg resident was uploading child sexual abuse imagery to the internet.
ICE learned that the suspect had also exchanged child porn through email in March of 2013. More images were uploaded in February 2016 and again in April 2016.
ICE executed a warrant on March 7, 2017 on a home in the Inkster/faraday area of the city. They seized a computer belonging to the suspect. Police found more than 2000 images and videos of children involved in various sex acts with other childern and adults on the device.
Matthew Adam MacNeil, 29 from winnipeg, was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement on July 19, 2017.
MacNeil is facing charges including Access any Child Pornography X2, Possession of Child Pornography, Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography X2
He was remanded into custody.
