Two Men Arrested Following Attempted Robbery in Downtown Winnipeg

Winnipeg Police arrested two men following an attempted robbery in the downtown area on Saturday evening.

Officers from the Central District Community Support Unit were conducting proactive patrols in the 300 block of Kennedy Street around 9:00 p.m. in response to ongoing crime concerns. They witnessed what appeared to be a robbery in progress involving two adult male suspects and an adult victim.

The suspects were apprehended a short distance away, but the victim fled the scene before officers could interview them.

Gregory Spence, 20, was arrested in possession of a loaded revolver-style handgun and faces multiple firearm-related charges, including carrying a concealed weapon and possession of a prohibited firearm. He also faces charges related to breaching probation and undertaking conditions.

Matthew Woodhouse, 28, was arrested in possession of a 12-inch serrated knife and faces charges of carrying a concealed weapon and breaching release order conditions.

Both men remain in custody.
