Police seize weapon
Winnipeg’s Tactical Support Team responded to the 200 block of Selkirk Avenue early Saturday morning after police received reports of shots fired.
Three men had driven to the area and fired a shotgun at the front window of the residence. The suspects took off before police arrived. Three people were in the home at the time of the shooting, including an 18 month old child. Police report that there were no injuries as a result of the shotgun blast.
Officers were able to locate the suspects fairly quickly at a residence in the 100 block of Selkirk Avenue. Three men were taken into custody and investigators seized a sawed-off shotgun.
Richard Denis Champagne, 47 from Winnipeg, and Timothy Hiebert, 46 from Winnipeg, have been charged for their alleged involvement with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
Raymond Lorne Smith, a 62-year-old male of Scanterbury, has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Careless Use of Firearm, Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Possession of a Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Mischief under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
All three men were detained in custody.
