Two men are in custody after police received a report that a semi-automatic rifle had been found by public housing security officers at a Pembina Highway townhouse.
At 10:47 pm on Wednesday, January 25, 2023, General Patrol and Tactical Support Team officers responded and took two male occupants into custody. Police subsequently seized a number of items including:
- A Kodiak Defense .223 calibre rifle (with an obliterated serial number)
- An ammunition magazine loaded with .223 rounds
- Additional .223 rounds
- 9mm rounds
- A ballistic vest
48-year-old Stuart James Asham of Portage la Prairie was charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x3)
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Breach of Recognizance
- Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)
Madison Sage Durupt, 23, of Winnipeg was charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Possess body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with the valid permit (The Body Armour and Fortified Vehicle Control Act)
