Two Manitobans shot as gunman opens fire in Las Vegas Sunday night

Jody Ansell from Stonewall and her friend Jan Lambourne from Teulon are two of the more than 400 people injured as a gunman opened fire on a crowded country music festival in Las Vegas on Sunday night, October 1, 2017.

Ansell was shot in the arm and Lambourne in the stomach as the pair tried to flee the carnage.

“Everyone was stampeding like cattle. I decided to just run,” said Ansell from her hospital bed.

As the two friends were trying to get away Lambourne dropped to the ground having sustained a bullet wound to the stomach. Seconds later Ansell said she felt the sting in her right arm as the bullet entered her body.

Both Ansell and Lambourne are recovering in hospital.

More than 50 people were killed and 400 injured when a “lone wolf” gunman unleashed a rain of bullets from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Hotel across the street for the music festival venue.

Police in Las Vegas have identified the shooter as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, an American citizen.
