Two males arrested in Ashern firearms incident

Two men are in custody after RCMP responded to a firearms call at a home in Ashern just before 12:30 am on July 1, 2021.

Police say that the suspects were threatening the residents and one of them was armed several firearms. The two men fled in a vehicle as police responded to the call. A search, with the help of a police dog, located the vehicles at a nearby motel.

The two male suspects were arrested. A search uncovered pills, brass knuckles, a switchblade knife and firearms including one with a suppressor.

21-year-old Tyler Schellenberg and 30-year-old Randall Schaffer have been charged for their alleged involvement with Pointing a firearm, Unauthorized possession of a firearm, Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, Possession of a restricted firearm and Possession of a controlled substance.
