Two injured after collision with stolen vehicle

A 31-year-old Winnipeg man is facing multiple charges including fleeing from police and assaulting officers after he was attempting to get away in a stolen vehicle.

Police say that around 1:50 on Sunday, February 19, 2023, a stolen pickup truck with stolen plates was spotted in the North End of Winnipeg. As officers tried to contain the truck on Mountain Avenue it collided with a parked vehicle and then rammed a cruiser. The pickup then took off westbound. Within a few minutes, the stolen vehicle hit another car and knocked down several light standards at Inkster Boulevard and McGregor Street. The suspect then tried to flee on foot but was quickly captured by police.

Two female passengers in the vehicle that was hit were taken to the hospital in stable condition. The driver of the hit vehicle was not injured. The suspect and officers involved in the initial collision did not report any injuries but were assessed by paramedics as a precaution and cleared.

Police say the pickup was stolen from the 500 block of Osborne Street on February 14 and the plates were taken from another vehicle on February 17.
