UPDATED STORY
Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) was involved in a standoff at an apartment building on College Avenue at Charles Street on Saturday, February 10, 2024.
The incident began around 3:00 am. when police received a report that a female was being held captive in an apartment suite. It was reported to police that several people were in the apartment along with firearms.
More than 20 officers were on scene including general patrol, Tactical Support Team and K-9. Emergency medical services, including three ambulances, a fire truck and a medical supervisor were also staged on Main Street throughout the incident.
Tactical Support Team members were able to safely remove several occupants in the suite, including the woman who had been held against her will. The other occupants refused to exit.
Police set up their Critical Incident Command and crisis negotiators were brought in.
During the standoff, one of the suspects discharged a firearm at police striking three officers. The injuries to the officers were non-life-threatening, according to police.
Two male suspects in their 40s were taken into custody
At least one of the suspects was taken to hospital following his arrest.
Members of both the Major Crimes and Homicide Units are continuing to investigate.
Police say more information will be provided as it becomes available.
