Two in custody as investigation leads to drug and firearm seizures

An investigation into the sale of crack cocaine has led to the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of drugs, weapons and cash.

Police say that they began looking into a female who they believed was coordinating the sale of crack on behalf of a street gang. As part of the investigation, officers stopped a taxi near Ellice Avenue and Minto Street on Sunday, June 12, 2022. The two suspects inside were arrested and officers seized the following items:

  • a 9mm calibre handgun with an auto sear implemented to make it fully automatic (prohibited firearm)
  • an extended magazine loaded with 21 9mm calibre cartridges (prohibited device)
  • 15 ounces of crack cocaine (estimated street value of $34,000)
  • 12 grams of cocaine (estimated street value of $960)
  • $2,030 Canadian currency

While searching the suspect police found 40 Tylenol 3 pills on one suspect and 17 grams of crack cocaine, 10 Xanax pills and $1,000 in cash on the other.

As a result of the arrests officers obtained two search warrants for a Dufferin Avenue residence. A search of the property located 9mm calibre ammunition, .308 calibre ammunition, .22 calibre ammunition, score sheets and a bulletproof vest.

43-year-old Samantha Lee Bruyere from Peguis First Nation and 52-year-old Monique Aileen Marie Duhard of Rathwell, Manitoba were charged for their alleged involvement with multiple firearms, drug and property offences.

Both of the accused were detained in custody.
