Two in custody after multiple commercial break-ins

Winnipeg Police have two suspects in custody after an investigation by the Major Crimes unit into a series of commercial break-ins.

Police say that during February 2020 there were a number of break-ins with similar circumstances. Small businesses on major arteries in the city seemed to have been targeted. Several of the break-ins occurred near previous break-ins.

Investigators were able to identify a suspect vehicle and linked a male and a female to it. On February 27, 2020 the suspects were arrested.

The male suspect was found to have three throwing knives strapped to his ankle when he was searched during his arrest say police.

Gerald Anthony Ainworth, 49 and Ronni Michelle Chartrand, 43, both from Winnipeg are facing weapons and break-in related charges for they alleged involvement.

Both were detained in custody.
