Winnipeg Police have arrested two men in connection to a carjacking and two home invasions on Monday July 13, 2020.
Police say that approximately 3:30 pm a 52-year-old male and his 17-year-old daughter were on their way to their vehicle near Rue Despins and Rue Jeanne dArc in St. Boniface when they were confronted and their vehicle taken. One of the suspects threatened to shoot the male during the robbery according to police accounts.
While the carjackers were fleeing the area they collided with another car.
Around 5:00 pm the suspect then went to an apartment building in the 400 block of Maryland Street where they forced their way into to suites. Three male victims were robbed at gunpoint during the home invasion.
The suspects than returned to the vehicle they had carjacked and while fleeing once again collided with a nearby car as well as a front-end loader and a garage.
The pair then passed a police patrol unit and accelerated to a high rate of speed as they attempted to elude officers.
The vehicle was then abandoned in a nearby back lane. As the suspects attempted to get away on foot, officers gave chase and both were taken into custody.
Officers searched the stolen vehicle and found a sawed-off .22 calibre rifle, a paintball gun and two knives.
Police say that the suspect who was operating the vehicle appeared to be impaired by a drug.
It is believed that the victims and suspects did not know each other.
