RCMP are investigating after a drone was seen flying over and into Stony Mountain Institution in the early morning hours of Sunday July 3, 2022.
Police were called around 3:20 am about the incident and told that a suspicious vehicle had also ben seen on a backroad near the prison.
Officers searched the area and located the vehicle on Highway 7 near Provincial Road 321 and a traffic stop was initiated. As the officer approached the vehicle a drone could be clearly seen in the backseat.
Two males in the vehicle were arrested.
As the search and arrest was taking place back at the prison a search of the area where the drone was believed to have landed was undertaken and a package was located. Inside the package was methamphetamine and what is believed to be fentanyl. A similar package was located the day before after staff at Stony also reported to have seen a drone.
On July 4, a resident near where the traffic stop happened reported to police that they had found a suspicious package. police determined that the package contained controlled substances and could be transported by a drone. The package was also consistent with the packages previously found at Stony Mountain.
Shahram Tokhy, a 20-year-old male from Vancouver, and Jalen Falk, a 22-year-old male from Burnaby were charged for their alleged involvement with two counts of Trafficking Methamphetamine, Possession for the purposes of trafficking and Possession of property obtained by crime
On July 6, 2022, Winnipeg Police Service was called to an Airbnb property on Stradbrook Avenue after the owner of the property found several items of concern within his rental unit.
Police found a firearm and a large quantity of methamphetamine and other drugs.
The Airbnb had been rented by Tokhy and Falk.
Police charged Jalen Falk and Shahram Tokhy for their alleged involvement with:
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of a Firearm Obtained by Crime
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking
- Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Cannabis Act Possession for the Purpose of Selling Cannabis x 3
Shahram Tokhy also received a second charge of Possession of a Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order.
Both accused remain in custody.
