Two firefighters injured while battling Gagnon Street fire

Two Winnipeg firefighters were injured while fighting an early morning fire on Gagnon Street on Sunday, September 10, 2023.

Crews were called to the scene in the 500 block at 4:55 am where they found a three-storey apartment building on fire. Firefighters attacked the flames from the outside of the structure as other emergency crews ensured residents were safely evacuating.

Firefighters transitioned to fight the fire from the inside once conditions improved and were able to get the fire under control at 7:20 am.

Two firefighters suffered minor injuries and were assessed by paramedics at the scene. Neither firefighter were required to be taken to hospital. No other injuries were reported.

Winnipeg’s Emergency Social Services team was called in to help displaced residents find a temporary place to stay.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
