RCMP responded to two separate vehicle collisions early Saturday morning May 5, 2018, that claimed the lives of two men.
Police say that around 1:20 am a 43-year-old male driver of a pickup truck died after his vehicle rolled as he was travelling northbound on Highway 13. It happened about three kilometres north of Carmen. Investigators say the man was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
The driver was not wearing his seatbelt and it is believed alcohol was a factor in the rollover.
Two hours later officers from Ashern responded to reports of a vehicle rollover three kilometres north of Ashern on Highway 6.
Police say an SUV being driven by a 24-year-old female was travelling south when it rolled. Both the driver and a 30-year-old male passenger were wearing seatbelts and were able to exit the vehicle. As the passenger exited the SUV he was hit by a pickup truck and killed.
The 41-year-old driver of the pickup truck was arrested and charged with Impaired Driving Causing Death along with several other charges. He was detained in custody.
The female driver of the SUV suffered non-life threatening injuries. Investigators say that alcohol was not a factor in the rollover of the SUV.
