Two Edmonton men facing charges after police seize illegal tobacco

RCMP stop a westbound vehicle on Highway 1 near Falcon Lake on February 10, 2020, only to discover 1.2 million illegal cigarettes.

Two men from Edmonton, Alberta were arrested at the scene and if convicted could face a mandatory triple tax penalty of $1,080,000.00.

47-year-old Issa Ahmad and 40-year-old Behzad Ahmad are both facing charges under the Criminal Code of Canada for trafficking contraband tobacco, the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act and the Excise Act.

Both men have been released with court-imposed conditions and will appear in a Winnipeg court on March 2, 2020.

RCMP continue to investigate.
