Two deaths and 17 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Manitoba

Manitoba Public Health announced 17 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, August 18, 2020, as of 9:30 am. The total number of lab-confirmed and probable cases stands at 748.

The current five-day COVID-19 test positivity rate is 1.80 per cent.

A male in his 80s from Hanover health district and a male in his 90s from the Niverville/Richot health district both died from COVID-19. Public health says that both cases had been previously announced as positive for the virus and were connected to known clusters.

Two of the new cases are in the Prairie Mountain Health region, Two new cases in the Southern Health region, Two new cases in the Interlake-Eastern Health region and 11 cases in the Winnipeg Health region.

The cases identified today include:

Interlake-Eastern Health region TWO CASES

  • One female in her 50s
  • One female in her 70

Prairie Mountain Health Region TWO CASES

  • One male under nine
  • One female in her 50s

Southern Health Region TWO CASES

  • One male in his 70s
  • One male in his 80s

Winnipeg Health Region 11 CASES

  • Two males under nine
  • One female and five males in their 20s
  • Two females and one male in their 30s

Public health says that the Winnipeg cases are, for the most part, related to contacts that turned into cases. Several of the cases cannot be determined where they were acquired

There are currently 235 active cases of COVID-19 in the province with 502 people listed as recovered.

Eight people are being treated in the hospital of which two are in intensive care.

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 is 11.

1,028 laboratory tests were completed on Monday. According to Manitoba Public Health the total number of completed tests since early February to 116,990.
