Two dead after salmonella outbreak in personal care home

Two people have died after a salmonella outbreak occurred at Golden West Centennial Lodge personal care home in March.

Health officials do not know the source of the outbreak but confirm three people tested positive for the bacteria.

Salmonella can be passed to humans through food or beverages, contaminated surfaces, or contact with other people or animals who are infected.

Once the outbreak was identified the PCH isolated patients to their floors, cancelled activities and restricted visitors.

Health officials gave Golden West the all clear on Tuesday after there were no more residents afflicted in more than a week.

Visiting and movement within the facility restrictions have been lifted.
