Police arrest axe-wielding suspects in two different incidents

Winnipeg Police have two men in custody after they made threats to people while wielding an axe in two non-related incidents on Thursday, May 9, 2019.

Police say that just after 5:30 pm a male placed an axe against the throat of an adult male in the Osborne Street Rapid Transit Station. The victim was able to push the axe away but cut his hand in the process. The suspect then chased an adult female and threatened her with the axe.

Police responded and located the suspect near Jessie and Pembina Highway. After a short foot chase officers were able to place the suspect in custody.

Steven Andrew Beaulieu, 33 is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including Assault with a Weapon. Possess Weapon and Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

The second incident happened about an hour and a half later, just after 7;00 pm.

Paramedics were transporting a male who had been in medical distress in the 200 block of Vaughn Street. As the ambulance arrived at Health Sciences Centre the male produced a hatchet and threatened the emergency medical crew.

Police officers who were nearby responded and used a taser to bring the suspect under control.

No one was injured in the incident.

A 24-year-old male was arrested and charged for his alleged involvement with Assault with a Weapon and Possess Weapon.

He was detained in custody.
