One victim was brutally assaulted, required emergency surgery
Early Sunday morning, July 30, 2017, Winnipeg Police received a call about a man who had been assaulted in the area of Main Street and Dufferin Avenue.
As officers arrived they found a 34-year-old male who was unconscious but was breathing. He was taken to hospital in critical condition and underwent emergency surgery. As a result of the attack, he suffered a serious and significant brain injury. He remains in hospital at this time.
Officers also found a 38-year-old woman who had also been assaulted during the attack suffering from minor injuries.
Investigators from the Major Crimes Unit were called in and were able to identify the suspects in the case.
Later in the day on Sunday officers arrested and charged two people.
Robert George Linklater, 35 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Breach of Recognizance
- Assault
Griffen Austin Hawula, 19 from Winnipeg has been charged for his alleged involvement with:
- Aggravated Assault
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Linklater and Hawula have been detained in custody.
