The Winnipeg Police Service’s Organized Crime Division, in collaboration with multiple law enforcement agencies, has arrested two individuals suspected of possessing firearms and large quantities of explosive substances. The arrests were made on May 2, 2024, following the execution of multiple warrants at two locations in West Winnipeg and Headingley, Manitoba.
The investigation was initiated after an explosion occurred in Headingley, with evidence suggesting that the same individuals were potentially planning another detonation. The collaborative investigation involved the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA), and the National Weapons Enforcement Support Team (NWEST).
The two arrested individuals are Evan Luke Reimer, 24, and a 23-year-old male, whose identity has not been disclosed. Numerous firearms, ammunition, and large quantities of explosive substances were seized from the locations.
Reimer has been charged with three counts of possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of explosives, and theft under $5000. The 23-year-old male, who is facing firearm-related offences, has been released on an undertaking.
The investigation is still in its early stages, with ongoing interviews. “Public safety is our highest priority, and our goal today is to share some initial information, including reassurance, to all members of the public,” stated a representative from the Winnipeg Police Service.
Additional information will be provided as the investigation progresses. Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact the Winnipeg Police Service at (204) 986-7003 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or via their website at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
