Two arrested in a crime spree that sent a police officer to hospital

Winnipeg Police Service has two men in custody for crimes that involved a stolen vehicle, multiple thefts, property damage and two officers assaulted.

Police say that around 1:10 pm on Saturday June 5, 2021, a male went to a home in the Booth neighbourhood and asked for a drink of water. As the resident left to get water the male stole a number of items including the keys to a truck. The male stole the truck and left the area.

About 90 minutes later the suspect went to a Pembina Highway gas station and tried to buy a number of items with a bank card that had been in the vehicle but the card was declined. The suspect was asked to leave but then tried to assault the employee. He grabbed the items he had tried to purchase and fled the store.

The assessed the drove the stolen truck through a fence in the 200 block of Point West Way.

Just after 4:00 pm the suspect and a second male went to Superstore on Bison Drive. The suspect went into the store and stole a number of items.

Two Winnipeg police officers who were working special duty in the store tried to arrest the suspect but he was able to resist the officers and flee to the truck. The officers pursued but the second male put the truck in reverse and sped towards the officers hitting them with the vehicle before fleeing.

One of the officers was transported to hospital, treated and released.

The fleeing males then drove the stolen truck to a business on Chevrier Boulevard. Police say they drove through several metal gates causing damage to the property in the process.

The suspects were found hiding in the area and arrested. The stolen truck was found but it has sustained significant damage during the crime spree.

44-year-old Jeffrey Ernest Schnurrer has been charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon, Theft Under $5000. Theft of Motor Vehicle, Mischief Over $5,000, Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment and Robbery

Jason Alexander Angus, 28 is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon (x2), Theft Under $5000, Mischief Over $5,000, Possession of a Weapon, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000, Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.
