A late-night disturbance on Battery Street resulted in the arrest of two Winnipeg men after a violent break-in involving a firearm and bear spray.
On March 17, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., Winnipeg Police Service officers responded to reports of shots fired in the first 100 block of Battery Street.
Upon arrival, officers discovered that two suspects had forced their way into a residence occupied by several adults, some of whom were known to the suspects. A confrontation ensued, during which a firearm was discharged inside the home, and bear spray was deployed. None of the occupants sustained physical injuries.
Police apprehended one suspect at the scene, while the second was taken into custody nearby.
Terrence Cials Hanska, 35, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Break & Enter with Intent – Dwelling House
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
Terry Mitchell, 20, also of Winnipeg, faces the following charges:
- Break & Enter with Intent – Dwelling House
- Discharge a Firearm in a Reckless Manner
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized (x2)
- Use of Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order (x2)
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking (x2)
- Warrant: Weapons (RCMP)
- Warrant: Fail to Comply Undertaking (RCMP)
Both Hanska and Mitchell have been detained in custody.
