Two arrested after police follow them driving a stolen vehicle

Two men are in custody after police spotted them in a stolen vehicle Monday night, February 3, 2020.

The vehicle had been stolen the day before from Lincoln Avenue after it had been left running with the keys in the ignition.

Police say officers observed the stolen vehicle around 10:30 pm near Sherbrook Street and Sargent Avenue and followed as they weaved through side streets.

Eventually, a stop stick was deployed on Sargent which the vehicle ran over. The suspects continued to drive the vehicle to Erin Street and Sargent Avenue where they abandoned it.

A K-9 unit combed the area and found one of the suspects hiding under a trailer. When the male refused to come out the service dog went in after him. The suspect was taken into custody.

Police say they found the second male suspect in the 1000 block of Erin Street and took him into custody.

22-year-old Vernon Joshua Manoakesick from Saint Theresa Point has been charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Drive Without Licence or with Invalid Licence
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order X2
  • Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000
  • Resist Peace Officer

Lambert Louis Mason, 31 from Winnipeg is facing charges for his alleged involvement of Resist Peace Officer, Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5000.

Both men were detained in custody.
