Two armed men force way into RM of St. Andrews home, say RCMP

Selkirk RCMP has two men in custody after a home in the RM of St. Andrews was the target of a break-in.

Police say that around 1:30 pm on Saturday, February 8, 2020, they responded to a home near Petersfield.

When officers arrived they learned that while the homeowner was inside the home two men forced open the front door and entered the home. The homeowner called neighbours who came over and as they arrived were confronted by the two suspects. One of the men had a firearm.

Images of the alleged break-in surfaced on social media and one of the suspects can be clearly seen pointing a handgun outside the home.

RCMP searched the area but could not find the suspects.

They caught a break in the case when they received a call around 8:15 pm about a snowmobile that had broken down in a yard in the RM of St. Andrews.

Police say the homeowners had given a ride to the two snowmobilers to a home on Highway 8 but were concerned that they appeared suspicious.

The snowmobile matched the description of the one used in the earlier break-in.

Police responded to the Highway 8 home and placed two men and a female in custody.
