An early morning fire on Turnbull Drive resulted in the destruction of a two-storey home on Friday, March 25, 2022.

Just before 5:00 am firefighters responded to the 100 block of the St. Norbert neighbourhood and encountered flames and smoke shooting from the structure. Due to the intensity of the blaze and safety concerns a defensive attack was launched using an aerial ladder and hand lines. Water had to be transported to the site because the home is outside Winnipeg’s water district. An extra tanker was brought in to help from the RM of Richot Fire Department.

Four people who were inside the home were able to get out before emergency crews arrived on the scene. No injuries have been reported.

Fire officials say that firefighters are expected to be on the scene for most of the day.

The home collapsed into the basement and part of the driveway and is considered a total loss.

Firefighters remain on-scene as of 4:00 pm and are continuing to use a ladder truck to “drown out the remaining fire” the city said in a media release.

Roads in the area remain closed while crews remain on the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
