A St. Claude man is lucky to be alive after the truck he was driving went over the side of a bridge and partially submerged into the frigid water below.
RCMP say that around 8:30 am on Friday, November 17, 2017, the truck the man was driving was travelling southbound on Road 18W when the 73-year-old male driver lost control of the pick-up and trailer he was towing and crashed through the wooden guardrail of a bridge and dropped about 15 feet crashing through the ice into the water below.
The driver was able to get out of the vehicle and get to shore. A passing motorist was able to help the driver by keeping him warm until emergency responders arrived on scene. RCMP say the man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to hospital.
Police continue to investigate the accident.
