Truck drives up the stairs at the Manitoba Legislature

UPDATED

A 33-year-old male was arrested after allegedly driving a pickup truck up the front stairs of the Manitoba Legislature Building on Wednesday, July 7, 2021.

Police responded to the provincial government headquarters minutes after the incident occurred around 6:30 pm. Tires could be heard squealing seconds before the truck drove up the limestone stairway leading into the building.

According to people who witnessed the incident the male driver got out of the truck yelling “There is children found in Ontario, Ontario’s falling”

The suspect was charged for his alleged involvement with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance and Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment. He was released on an undertaking then taken to hospital where he was admitted to a hospital for a medical assessment.

A female passenger was also arrested but she was released without any charges being laid.

The incident occurred just one week after two statues were toppled on the front and side of the Legislature Building during a demonstration.
