Premier Wab Kinew announced on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, that a byelection for the provincial constituency of Transcona will take place on Tuesday, March 18.
The byelection comes in the wake of the recent passing of Nello Altomare, the former member of the legislative assembly for Transcona, who passed away on January 14. Altomare’s death has left a vacancy in the constituency.
Today, the necessary documents for the March 18 byelection were signed and issued. In the coming days, the chief electoral officer will release additional information, including polling times, locations, and details on advance polls.
Currently, the Manitoba legislature is composed of 33 New Democrats, 21 Progressive Conservatives, one independent Liberal, one independent member, and one vacant seat, which will be filled following the Transcona byelection.
