Train derailment shuts down McPhillips Street

UPDATED

Emergency crews were called to the scene of a train derailment over McPhillips Street around 7:47 am which shut down the roadway in both directions between Logan Avenue and Jarvis Avenue.

According to Assistant Chief Scott Wilkinson, Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service, twelve railcars containing bitumen left the tracks. None of the involved cars are leaking at this time. No injuries were reported.

CP rail crews are already on the scene and will be working to clean up the derailment.

Police anticipate that McPhillips Street will remain closed between Logan Avenue and Jarvis Avenue for the next few days in both directions until an inspection of the bridge can be conducted. Motorists are advised to find alternate routes.

The cause of the derailment is under investigation
