Tragic Single-Vehicle Collision Claims Life of RM of Rockwood Resident

On the evening of July 23, 2024, at approximately 7:45 pm, Selkirk RCMP responded to a distressing report of a single-vehicle collision on Chalet Beach Road, about three kilometres east of Highway 9, in the RM of St. Andrews. A passerby discovered a vehicle partially submerged in water in the ditch along a gravel roadway.

Upon arrival, officers were joined by the local fire department and Emergency Medical Services. Inside the vehicle, they found a 69-year-old woman from the RM of Rockwood, who was tragically deceased. She was the sole occupant of the vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the vehicle lost control on the gravel road, veered into the ditch, and rolled onto its roof. At the time of the collision, the ditch contained approximately three feet of water.

Authorities confirmed that the deceased was wearing a seatbelt, and there is no indication that alcohol played a role in the incident.

The investigation is ongoing, with the assistance of an RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, to determine the exact circumstances surrounding this tragic accident.
