Traffic stop leads to weapons charges on Sandy Bay First Nation

Manitoba First Nations Police Service has arrested a 24-year-old Sandy Bay First Nation male after officers located firearms during a traffic stop in the community.

According to police they were conducting a routine traffic stop when they noticed open alcohol within the vehicle and the male passenger was seen wearing a ballistic vest.

A search of the vehicle located a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and a ballistic helmet.

The passenger was charged for his alleged involvement with:

  • Unsafe Storage of a Firearm•Possession of a Firearm in a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of a Restricted Firearm/Prohibited Weapon w/ammunition without a licence
  • Possession of a restricted firearm/prohibited weapon when Unauthorized
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose•Possession of Body Armour
  • Unauthorized possession of a Firearm/Prohibited Weapon/Restricted Weapon

The male was remanded in custody.
