Traffic stop leads to weapons charges for driver and passenger

Winnipeg police have charged two people with weapon offences after an early morning traffic stop.

Police say that around 1:00 am on Wednesday, April 13, 2022, patrol officers stopped a vehicle near Slater Street and Selkirk Avenue. During the stop officers spotted a can of bear spray in the front of the vehicle. The driver and passenger were taken into custody.

The officers searched the vehicle and found a sawed-off rifle and ammunition.

Robert Paul Douglas McKay, 38 was charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized and two counts of Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order.

44-year-old Kelsey Ramsey Patrick was charged for his alleged involvement with Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized, two counts of Possession of a Firearm/Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order and two counts of Fail to Comply with Probation Order.

Both men were detained in custody.
