RCMP have arrested a 36-year-old male after finding a loaded weapon in the vehicle he was driving.
Police say that on New Year’s Day they initiated a traffic stop in Gimli. The driver pulled over then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot.
The suspect then walked out onto Lake Winnipeg with officers in pursuit and attempted to steal a truck near an ice fishing shack.
He was arrested before he could escape capture.
As the investigation continued officers found a backpack containing a loaded sawed-off shotgun.

David Allen Parker from Winnipeg Beach is facing a number of charges for his alleged involvement including Possession of a Prohibited Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, Robbery, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Possession of a Controlled Substance and other Criminal Code charges.
The investigation continues.
