RCMP in Brandon along with the Roving Traffic Unit stopped a vehicle on Highway 1 in the RM of Whitehead on Thursday afternoon, January 14, 2021, and seized a significant amount of illegal tobacco products.
According to police a 44-year-old female and a 23-year-old male, both from Alberta were arrested and charged for their alleged involvement with Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Criminal Code, Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Excise Act 2001 and Possession of Unstamped Tobacco under the Tax Administration and Miscellaneous Taxes Act.
The pair face thousands of dollars in fines along with possible jail time if convicted.
Both of the accused were released on a promise to appear in a Brandon court on April 8, 2021.
RCMP continue to investigate.
