Traffic stop leads to drug arrest in Winnipeg’s north end

Late Saturday night, January 13, 2018, Winnipeg Police pulled a vehicle over near Selkirk Avenue and Main Street.

As officers were talking to the driver they noticed a large hunting knife clearly visible on the front seat. The driver was under a court order not to possess any weapons and in a subsequent search of the vehicle, police found $10,000 worth of meth, a small amount of cocaine and $9,000 in cash.

James Joseph Freitas,37, was charged for his alleged involvement with two counts of Fail to Comply with Recognizance, Possession of Methamphetamine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of Cocaine for the Purpose of Trafficking, Possession of a Weapon and Possession of Proceeds of Crime over $5,000

Freitas was detained in custody.

 

Police also arrested a 33-year-old male who was also in the vehicle at the time of the search. He has been charged with a number of drug and weapon offences and was released on a promise to appear in court.
