Toronto Street vacant house fire under investigation

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service responded to an afternoon fire in the 500 block of Toronto Street.

When firefighters arrived they were greeted with heavy smoke and flames coming from a vacant house. A defensive attack was launched until conditions improved and crews were able enter the building and transition to an offensive attack

It took about 90 minutes for the fire to be knocked down and declared under control at 3:49 pm.

A search of the building confirmed there was no one inside at the time of the fire. One firefighter was treated by paramedics for a heat-related injury and taken to hospital. Another firefighter suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
