11 people and four businesses caught with illegal tobacco products

Four businesses and 11 people are facing charges after the Special Investigation Unit from Manitoba Finance seized more than 10,000 cigarettes, 19,024 grams of sheesha containing tobacco and $10,689 in cash.

Investigators say that the accused businesses and individuals were found selling or in possession of illegal tobacco products not tax marked for sale in Manitoba.

The 11 accused people face fines of $1,000 to $10,000 and/or up to six months in jail if convicted. They may also be on the hook for three times what the tax would have been if the products had been sold legally.
